SYTYCD is now entering it’s 15th season! While there are other dance shows that have followed in it’s wake, SYTYCD was the first show of it’s type to focus strictly on dance, encouraging dancers from around the country with a variety of stylistic backgrounds to compete for the coveted title of America’s favorite dancer. In it’s 15 years, SYTYCD has garnered 59 Emmy Award nominations and 15 Emmy wins!
In 2013, the top Emmy nominated choreographers got together to create a piece to open the Emmy’s. This was monumental in history, as it was the first time a choreographer’s work was showcased and the announcement of the winner was made live on TV.

In the show’s 15 years, there have been changes and tweaks to the format, but the main idea and process hasn’t really changed. Dancers audition across the country for the chance to go to the “Academy,” where they train and work with top choreographers. Those dancers are then evaluated by the judges, who decide who moves on to the studio to compete live on TV. Every season has it’s favorites. And each season we are blown away by the level of talent. SYTYCD has raised the bar for competitive dancers and paved the way for dancers to be seen and ultimately to continue their careers in the entertainment industry.

Dancers from SYTYCD have even gone on to become outstanding choreographers and creators in their own right. Season two winner, Travis Wall, is the co-creator of Shaping Sound; a touring group of dancers telling their story, and putting on one amazing show, through a unique combination of style, performance and movement. This is an opportunity for dancers that has opened up as a result of the exposure and connections made through SYTYCD.
We have no doubt that in it’s 15th season SYTYCD will not disappoint. Have you been tuning in at home? Do you have dreams of auditioning for SYTYCD? Leave us a message in the comments!
