As the days get longer and the weather gets colder, sometimes we get a little down. Seasonal depression is a real thing, people! To top it all off, dancers are faced with bouts of rejection during the winter months when audition season is in full swing. Maybe you don’t receive the score you were hoping for at that competition, or perhaps you’re not feeling 100% and that’s been affecting your dance game. Whatever the cause, sometimes we need a little R&R to restart, refresh and remember the best things in life are worth waiting for.
Here are some tactics + tips to beat those winter blues!
Start each day with a dance party. Create a 10 minute playlist with your favorite songs to get the endorphins going first thing in the morning. Reconnect with why you LOVE to dance.
Jot your thoughts + destroy them. Sometimes you just need to lay out all the negative mental energy with a free-write. After you make those thoughts come to life on paper, destroy the sheet and tear it to pieces. It’s therapeutic to the max.
Give yourself 5 minutes a day to do something you love. While yes, you may LOVE dancing, sometimes it can be become competitive and way too overwhelming. Explore your other hobbies and give yourself time to do something that excites your spirit.
When in doubt, bake it out. Grab a few friends and experiment in the kitchen. There’s nothing like a warm batch of cookies on a cold day, not to mention some girl talk over brownies with your BFFs.
Set goals + achieve them. Winter is just a season, and warmer, brighter days are on the way. Take this time to brainstorm some special goals to crush by Spring’s arrival. Set an action plan and get going.
Enjoy a warm beverage. From herbal tea to hot cocoa, cozy up in your favorite JJ sweats with some Netflix. Give yourself the permission to enjoy a moment to yourself.
Drop a bath bomb. Treat yo’self to a LUSH trip and stock up on bath bombs for the winter season. A bath + a good book = the ultimate winter blues survival pack.
