It seems like every day is some kind of national, international, or world holiday. There’s National Dog Day (August 26), National Cat Day (October 29), National Peanut Butter Day (January 24), and National Pizza Day (February 9), to name a few of our favorites.
And as dancers, we feel extra special to get a few of our own holidays! We have National Dance Day (July 29), International Dance Day (April 29), National Tap Dance Day (May 25), and, happening today, World Ballet Day! (It also happens to be National Taco Day, so celebrate accordingly.)
There are loads of appropriate ways to celebrate World Ballet Day:
- Take a ballet class — of course!
- Bring a friend to her first ballet class (no pressure, though).
- Attend a ballet performance
- Watch your favorite ballet-related movie
- Treat yourself to a new outfit for ballet class (the Cali Leo, perhaps?)
- Watch this. On repeat.
But then, after you’ve plié-ed your heart out, shared your love for ballet with a friend, caught a professional company in action, watched Center Stage, and shopped until you dropped (whew, World Ballet Day is busy!), settle in and enjoy a few of our favorite ballet performances.
Happy World Ballet Day!
And if you have two hours to spare, enjoy watching the Kirov Ballet’s full-length performance of Swan Lake.
