We’re huge advocates of planning your daily eats in advance so you never find yourself in a frenzy trying to find a last-minute snack or meal to satisfy your hunger and give you the energy you need to keep dancing. But hey, life happens, and sometimes your only option really is a fast food joint, drive-thru, or convenience store. If you don’t have any healthy snacks on hand and need a pick-me-up, here are a few decent options for food on the fly.
McDonald’s: Go for the Premium Caesar Salad with Grilled Chicken and low-fat balsamic vinaigrette dressing and a Fruit ‘n Yogurt Parfait, or the Grilled Honey Mustard Snack Wrap with a small order of fries.
Dunkin’ Donuts: Eggs are usually a good bet depending how they’re prepared. If you drive by a Dunkin’, choose an Egg White Veggie Wake-Up Wrap with a side of hash browns or a Tuna Salad Sandwich on an English muffin.
Chipotle: We love Chipotle because there are tons of combinations that make for a healthy meal. Try three barbacoa (braised beef) tacos on soft corn tortillas and pile on the lettuce and tomato salsa (best to avoid the sour cream, and go light on the cheese), or get a Vegetarian Burrito Bowl with brown rice, beans, fajita vegetables, lettuce, and salsa.
Subway: Eat fresh—for real—by going for a 6″ sub on 9-grain bread. Turkey or Veggie subs are always solid choices, and feel free to pile on the veggies. Just go easy on the creamy dressings or sauces.
Starbucks: Skip the frothy Frappuccino (sorry!) and grab a Chicken & Hummus Bistro Box or Zesty Chicken & Black Bean Salad Bowl. They’ll fill you up and keep you fuller longer—promise!
Panera: Grab a Half Smoked Turkey Breast on artisan whole grain loaf plus a bowl of Garden Vegetable soup. If you’re in a mood for salad, the Power Mediterranean Chicken Salad is a fan favorite for good reason.
Wendy’s: We’re suckers for a chocolate Frosty, but it doesn’t pack much of a nutritional punch. A better option is a large Chili with a Garden Side Salad or the Ultimate Chicken Grill Sandwich with a side of apple slices.
